Hi all

Have been finishing off various lidded forms and thought I would post this one which is off out the door to it's new home.

It is locally sourced cherry with my usual anjan lid and finial.

200mm dia x 270 high.

Finished in Renaissance wax.

comments as always welcome.

That's a great piece Mark, very deserving of a discerning home.
Hit the core balance spot on to get the symmetrical grain pattens, the lid and finial being a complimentary colour as opposed to contrast gives it a warm look.

HI Chas and George

Thank you.

I thought I would go for the natural Anjan as I am getting fed up with fiddling around staining it and trying to get a good coverage. I may source a darker wood. Most of the anjan I use to get was very dark but recently it is this colour

I was pleased with this one as I lined up the pith and it worked out well with the grain.

Thank you again

This is absolutely beautiful, and something for me to aspire to.

Anjan is a wood I've never encountered. It looks particularly effective, even in its lighter shade!

Lovely looking piece Mark :D
The whole piece seems to match perfectly with the colour of the Cherry and the lighter coloured finial.
Great shape and finish as usual.

Mark.Do you leave the pith in or drill and plug. :?:
Just wondering how you are avoiding splitting taking place :?

Thank you all very much for your comments.

This one was turned pith aligned. What I do then is to drill out the pith just short of the base so that when I finish the piece there is not a hole in the base.

Then I soak inside the hole with thin superglue and drip some down inside onto the pith from the top.

It seems to work.

Looks like this one was well thought out to get that alignment of the grain. Certainly a lovely piece in every respect

Pete

Thank you. It is not often I have to say that it turns out this good. Now it has gone so I will never see it again

But at least I have the picture.

Kevin.

Thank you for your comment. Cherry has to be one of my favourites. I love turning it wet as it smells like marzipan.

Steve

Thank you for your comment. I am making a DVD in October where I will be going through the whole process of making these pieces right from roughing the green wood through to finishing the carved final.

( sorry about the plug)
