I need to get a dust extractor but with all my other commitments I am aiming to save money. Looking at these two I can't see any difference between them apart from the acoustic hood and £30. Anyone know any reason why I shouldn't go for the cheaper one over the more expensive one. Or alternatively is there another make out there the same price that would be a better buy?

Pete.
I can't see what you are looking at on your link, but i have always had one of
these SIP extractors.
I first had the 1hp but i now have the 2hp,as i was running other machines.
The 1hp is still going strong my brother as got it,and the 2hp is still OK,touch wood
You will probably need a longer length of tubing as they are usualy just 2 mtrs on the machine.Depending how far you are away.

The link ain't workin' Pete, but I guess your talking about these two machines. The WV100 and the WV100P.

Looking at the spec. the only difference appears to be the acoustic hood. If you can stand the noise, you could save £30, they look like identical machines to me.

Odd, the link works fine for me. It's to a comparisomn on the Axminster site.

The SIP one works out at the same price as the cheaper version but less powerful and with a smaller shift of air. Unless someone comes up with a better idea I think I'll be going for the WV100P. I can site it outside the shed under cover so that should help. My only neighbours will be sheep and bees so I don't think that will be topo much of a problem

That is because you have selected the machines to compare and that information is in a cookie on your machine, not ours.

Pete, if you are putting it outside why go for a high suction lower volume device.

Why not a High Volume Chip extractor, they will have a quieter induction motor and a considerably larger collection volume.

If located outside you will not need to worry unduly about fine filtration as long as dust emitted is not a hazard to passers by or neighbours.

A lot depends on your available budget Pete, I have an Axminster 1200 but that is near the £200 mark now I think.

If you do what I have done and fit a poly cotton 'pillow case' type bagto one to increase the air volume moved you may well find one of the cheaper versions moves considerably more than the specified figure with the standard filter bag.
