Yeah Pete, that is exactly what I thought but the buying price is £5 for 1.
For one of what ? The description is for a cubic ft of oak. And Ebay is contractual. So if I buy a cubic foot on line surely it must be from what is in picture?

He'd be within his rights to give you the most rubbish cu. ft he can find.

It's an advert, not a real auction.

That's not to say you might not get a good price, but I'll bet it won't be £5 for anything half-way decent.

I have spoken to this chap on the 'phone. It seems that he produces large oak beams and this timber is what is cut off when making them. The wood is a mixture of English and European (French and German). The price is for a cubic foot but as has been said it goes up to £20. The cheap stuff has been left in a stack i.e. no stickers so I guess that will mean it is not very dry. It has all been dried out in the open so it needs 'acclimatising' before you could use it inside. I will go and take a look in the next few days.

If it has no sticks then it will be like a cork screw!

At John Boddys they have a peice of oak in the yard that was not sticked to demonstrate what happens if not used.

I cant look up ebuy due to protocols Did any one find out he location?

Regards

Item location: Watlington, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom

I also spoke to this gent, David Layton. He has some that has been air-dried for 3 years, but goes for 10 to 15 £/cu.ft. I may also go & take a look this week.... :)

I wouldnt swear to it but i think this is the timber yard which is halfway between watlington and benson. - we drive past it quite a lot (hence recognising the owners name) but have never bought owt there.

if its not been stored in stick i would be very dubious of the quality for carpentry , but it might be worth a look for the turning fraternity who are much more able to work round spits and twist.

I would check it out but a) i am too busy getting married this weekend , and b) thanks to mikes magical oak sale i have enough oak turning blanks to keep me busy for the forseeable future

btw if anyone is thinking of checking it out watlington is nowhere near oxford - it is accessed by leaving the M40 at J6 and going south about 7 miles.
