Hi, My name is James and i am very new to this sight which was recommended to me by my good friend Mr Graham Booth.

I am a Carpebter /Joiner and i have been woodturning now for about 6 years. I recently bought a second hand fox 145 lathe to add to my collection. I wanted to get a cheap variable speed lathe as i was fed up having to keep changing the belt over on my big 5 speed record lathe.

My intial reaction was that it is definately worth the little money i paid for it but i have hit a wee snag. The belt came off the pulley when i dropped the speed down to quickly and i don't know how to put it back on as the pullies are spring loaded. I tried to force the pullies apart but only secceeded in chipping one of the pully wheels. So I now need some one who can tell me how to put the belt on and the nearest place to Peterborough who can supply me with a new pully wheel or wheels ? CAN ANYBODY HELP PLEASE ? URGENTLY. Many thanks, James.

Welcome to the forum James, any friend of Oldsoke is a friend of the forum, even if you all tend to make a racket at times.

Is the Fox 146 a similar to the Axminster 900 series? if so the pulley spares should fit.

To fit new belt you need to put the headstock pulley in its fastest position (wide open) and place the belt over it, it then should just about go over the closed motor pulley.

You are not alone in damaging the di-cast motor pulley trying to prize it open, needs doing with great care.
