Could anyone tell me the names of the centres that you use on the Head and Tail stocks, That prevent catches, when using a Skew Chisel etc,I’m learning the skew ,Links to the products would be appreciated.
They don't "prevent catches" - they minimise the damage done by them.
Ring centres or stebs, or you can set a normal drive centre shallow if it worries you that much.
Or whilst learning slacken off the belt drive from the motor (assuming yiu have a belt drive lathe) so it slips If anything really bad happens. You can't prevent all nastiness though.
The type of catch you get with a skew usually results in a nice deep spiral cut running back up the timber towards the head stock and a steb won’t stop that. A deep dig in will stall the wood and the dead steb will just spin the the timber stopping.
