Been in business 10 years this week. :)
Me and my business partner, had been doing bits and pieces on the side beforehand and banking the money, we invested £5k each and had about £8k saved up. With this we bought all our kit.
One thing I remember very clearly was only being able to glue up 2 doors at a time as we only had 4 sash clamps.
I think we were very naive when we started and never had no idea where the next job was coming from. Happy days.
Overall it's been great fun but very stressful at times.
Is it worth it, absolutely, anyone thinking about doing it should at least give it a go. However I still think you need a few years in a commercial workshop to really appreciate the speed required to make a profit.

Best wishes to you both and many more successful years to come from Devonwoody.

Your posts I have always found interesting and thanks for those as well.

Congrats Dr. . Celebratory meal this week?

I do wish i'd done time in a workshop before setting up, instead I seem to be re-inventing the wheel every time I do something.

Here's to the next ten.

Nathan

Congratulations Bob, although its been very stressful at times you have come through it, how? because the end product is very good, I know because I follow (with envy) your WIP, well done you.

Baldhead

Congratulations !

=D>

10 years is an important milestone imo (particularly when you think how many businesses have gone to the wall in this recession).

Maybe an opportunity to send xmas cards this year to previous customers pointing out the 10 years. Perhaps with a referral voucher inside?

Anyway, well done to you both .... and don't forget to get a celebration cake for the dogs.

Congratulations, especially on surviving post 2008, and here's to another 10 years

I think that calls for a drink or three :eek:ccasion5:

Congratulations! 10 years is definitely an achievement and to make it through what was a horrible recession deserves praise! Here's to ten more!

Congratulations Bob. I worked all my life as an employee of a biggish firm where continual work was pretty well guaranteed, and so had huge admiration for guys like yourself and your partner prepared to take the risk on going it alone.

John

Congratulations Bob. Not surprised with the quality of your work, it speaks for it'self. I will be celebrating 5 years in a couple of months and like you have had some worrying moments but still enjoying it and still getting orders.....so far. I just wish I can be halfway as good as your company in ten years. :D

From what I have seen of your workshop Bob you have come a long way in ten years, and your work looks great. Running your own business in the trades is not for the feint heated, but the more you put in the more you get out and that is not necessarily in monetary terms.
Good on you cheers Peter

There's condensed gold in there!

Many thanks for posting that, and congratulations too!

Congratulations, it takes a lot of stones to stick with it. You must be doing a few things right!

Cheers, Kev
