hello all, when i first started turning i bought a board of lebanese cedar from my local sawmill, it smelt lovely but was a bit boring to look at.
10 years later i get offerd some more but was told that there was some unusual markings running through it. well here it is, i love it, it turns great smells nice and i think looks good too. what do you guys say? has anyone ever seen any like this? apparenly the whole of the 5' diameter log is like it.

Wow  That's beautiful!!

I thought that C of L was crap wood and dead flaky - am I thinking of ordinary cedar.

Yes I have seen similar figuring before, I think it was referred to as 'stress ripples', I have no idea whether this was a true description of causation.
Unfortunately all the Cedar of Lebanon I have had access to has been rather bland and showing very distinctive hardness differences between seasonal growth rings.

A splendid platter, certainly making the most of the figuring.

That's great figuring. I got some CofL from a branch that fell out of a tree where I used to work, and it was BORING. But it seems it may be well worth looking out for more.
Incidentally, if the cedars where I used to work were anything to go by, they must be a Health and Safety nightmare. Held together with steel hawsers, and generally threatening to pedestrians!
