Dear all

Advice required please. I have a small Axminster Perform CCSL.

I was turning a small elm bowl 6-7" max tonight and it started to wobble and became impossible to correct.

I assumed it was the wood, but when I took it off the chuck and ran the lathe again the chuck clearly isn't running true. You can rest the back of a chisel on the chuck as it turns and it will bounce. The wheel on the outboard end is also wobbling.

Any idea what's gone wrong and how to mend it?

Thanks

Steve

Sounds like the bearings to me, they are quite easy to replace so shouldnt be a problem..john

HI Steve

Not very expensive I think around £20 for the pair.

The other thing is to check if the bearing retaining clips and the hand wheel are in properly as if these have moved it might be possible that the bearing has moved causing the play. If you have a look on page 11 of the manual you will see how it goes together,.

Problem solved. I think it was the hand wheel's fault. I took everything off that would come off without dismantling the headstock and carefully put it all back again.

I'll never run like a Harrison or a VB36 but it's running as well as it did before.

Thanks for the helping hand, John

All the best

Steve
