Hello again.

I'm searching for some new carbide tips, I'm going to re-sharpen my originals, but some spares and different shapes might be a good idea.

I'm getting slightly miffed it isn't an easier challenge! Some are 9mm, some 11, 12, 14, 15, onwards and upwards. I've seen some with types listed not sizes.

How are the diamonds and odd shapes measured? Which of those are going to fit the smaller handles I have, and which the larger? These things are expensive enough to make me stutter before hitting the buy button!

Do some sizes have a type? Is a type a size or a carbide alloy mixture? Does mini always mean 9mm? Does mini - midi? What is midi?
These are meant to be easier than gouges!!

Thanks.

Sorry, can't help with all the variations. Can only add another one - hole size. It varies from maker to maker.
There is no standardisation on the wood turning side but there may be if using to cut metal. Basically each maker can use their own terminology.
Simon Hope tools are well thought of, if somewhat expensive.
IIRC the 8mm & 10mm are mounted at a 45° angle.
