I recently bought a Caravan (still can't believe it - I'm a Boy Scout and caravans are meant to be evil)

It's got a wardrobe in it with a hanging rail. That's pretty useless for our needs and shelves would be better.

The space is about 600mm X 600mm what are my best options for wood for shelving it. I'm going to use small adjustable shelf brackets. Like these:

I'm not sure what wood to use for the shelves. I suspect ply is going to be lighter than MDF for the same thickness but not sure about strength. I need to keep the weight down. What sort of thickness ply is going to be strong enough. The shelves are likely to be about 250mm apart so won't have huge waits on them just a few clothes.

12mm far eastern ply from your local builder's merchant or Diy shed should be fine for that, just make sure you sand the edges well.

And unless you make the shelves full depth, put a lip on it otherwise everything will fall of in transit.

P. S. I'm also a caravan owner and would never ever have expected to own one. But we love it.

Ply would be a lot better than conti or mdf, not too thick, make sure you give a good coat of varnish to stop it going mouldy and a very thick lip to stop stuff sliding off.

Whilst you're in there, have a look at how well light enters the cupboard.
I know on mine I've added some lights into cupboards as when on some sites dark really is dark & existing caravan lights may not be positioned well for light to enter cupboard. (or if during the night you may not want to turn main lights on).
Just a thought. :)

Thanks guys, summed up my thoughts and the light point and lip on the shelves were good points.
