I found these photos recently. They show a condolence cabinet made for a friend's wife who sadly passed away. Its made from 3/4" european oak. The lid hinges at the back and has a fold up stay and a lock on the front.
The corners are biscuit jointed as are the lid corners. The glass is held in by removable beading and the base is ply. The inside is velvet covered hardboard to allow for replacement. The book, which is very heavy, is supported on either side of the spine with separate plinths.
