hello folks- a few weeks ago i visited my freindly tree surgeon and bought another couple of tonnes of beech to spalt- whilist i was there i also had a nosey around his log piles (as you do) there in the corner was some burr brown oak  a price was agreed and i bought one of the logs- it was about 10' long by about 20-22" wide, it has been down for 4 years- the forest from which it came is extremley wet and apparentley this makes the oak grow very slowly- it is quercus robur-common english oak.
we had to cut it up into 5 parts to get it home and unfortunatley not all of the wood is brown oak but it is very intresting burr oak none the less-extremley heavy!!
I cut one of the 5 parts this week and have turned some of it today- from one part i got four 8" square cubes for hollow form blanks and a 18-20" bowl blank and a load of offcuts.
the reason for my ramblings is the offcuts there too small for me and wonderd wether they are of any intrest to anyone on here? its green but not soaking wet.
if anyone is intrested I will get some pics when the snow clears-
over the next couple of weeks there will be allot more as i intend to work my way through all of it.
