So today Monday 11th we went down the workshop and found a big Burr

Mounted it on a 4" face plate , switched on the Lathe and RAN

OK so the lathe stayed put with no vibration at low speed

Started to clean off the bark , very crusty and lots of bits flying everywhere

The outer edge has some cracks to deal with as seen here

Off the face plate onto the chuck with 4" jaws to hold the beast

True up the outer edge of the face

Continue to hollow the bowl to the final shape and 2 coats of sanding sealer 2 coats of briwax and a polish up makes it look like this

The photos outside were taken in the late golden afternoon sun

Its the largest item Boysie has turned on his lathe , We are both over the moon with the result of our days labour

The bowl dimentions are as follows

54cm ( 21 1/4" ) long
43cm ( 16 7/8" ) wide
10cm ( 4" ) high

and it now weighs 7 KGS

What fun :p

Looks like you had a brilliant day together, good pals having a good time, well done.

Bet Blister is desperate to get the Titan up and running now!!!

Beautiful peice of burr and a monster bowl to boot!

Cheers,

Lee.

I think it would be prudent to put some Butterfly Ties across those shakes before they open up any further.

I bet both of you had a great and an exiting day, open window for fress air, drinking coffee and I guess, after the job something stronger.
What a fun!!
