Im trying to draw a plate rack in sketchup 7
I draw a cabinet cut a hole in the bottom and make it a group.

I then draw a circle on the side of the hole I just cut and pull it out into a dowel.
So far OK

I then make the the dowel into a group and do a move/copy and then hit the * key and 50 to get 50 copies -
which seems to work for about two seconds and then it crashes and sketchup closes down?

anyone know if i'm doing something wrong?

thanks

Mike

My first question is why are you using groups instead of components?

Are you using a high number of segments for the circle when you draw it? Or the default 24? I just did it with a 24-segment circle and had no problem.

When it crashes are you getting a Bug Splat dialog box or does it crash Windows? If the latter, I wonder if it's graphics card related. You might check a couple of things. See if the behavior changes when you change OpenGL settings under Preferences. Try reversing the state of Use Fast Feedback and Hardware Acceleration to see if there's a change.

What OS do you have?

Try making a component of the peg instead and see if that changes anything. Also try extruding a square and copying that. Does reducing the number of entities copied change anything?

Dont know why i use groups instead of components ? if i dont think i need a component i use a group instead :)

I dont know how to adjust segments so I guess im using the default :)

yes I get the bug splat box

I tried unchecking all open GL boxes and that worked :)

tried checking them one by one to see if problem returned but it didnt?????

Mike, as long as the problem is gone, that's good. You might want to check for graphics driver updates and make sure your computer is up to date that way.

Even if you are only making one instance of something, make it a component. It can save you work later and there are all sort of other benefits to components that you don't get with groups.
