just finished a box, that you may recall i had a router mishap while making
luckily i had enough material for a new part.

I had no idea bubinga is such a good looking wood when the light catches it right it really sparkles.

Each time a i make a box it ends up as a gift, but my wife says she want this one. Which i dont mind cause they are so time consuming to make

Very nice, love the hinges and the simple groove for opening the lid :D

And yes,the timber does look beautiful!

Very nice Tombo.

WHere did you buy your bubinga? I need some for a mirror frame and all the bubinga I've used in the past has been bought as turning blanks from Craft supplies. I need boards this time.

Cheers

dennis

the hinge pin is a 6mm bubinga dowel that i made from off cuts
cleanly trimming such a small and round piece is quite a challenge :?

steve

i got the wood from here
I think the chaps name is Robert, ive had a few bits and pieces from him though you have to take what he says over the phone as you dont get to see it before hand. So far each piece i have had has been very good ive had bubinga (obviously) paduik cocobolo and cedar (used in the bottom of this box)

The piece of bubinga i got was about 8 inches wide and 4 feet long i think it was about £40 +p&p

Very nicely done.

I think the scoop for the lid finger pull is a nice touch and has the effect of really emphasising the grain in that area. Nice work.

Cheers, Ed

Nice box Tom
From experience, i know bubinga can be a real pain to work with and get planed smooth, so hats off to you for what looks like a very nicely finished box

Nice piece Tom, some interesting features that complement the overall design, I have never worked with Bubinga but it looks a nice wood. Well done!!
