I remember years ago an old lady making the news by complaining that she didn't like daylight saving because the extra hour of sunlight was fading her curtains.

young children walking to school in daylight if possible is one sensible reason

Kids here get driven to school or take a school bus that stops in front of their house until they grow up enough to drive a car. Morning sunlight isn't a factor anymore.
