I'm not normally a fan of The Woodright's Shop (mainly because of the time constraints put on St Roy), but this morning I got an email from Brian Boggs (who I'm a big fan of) letting me know he recently was a guest on the show. I've just watched it and it's a really enjoyable insight into the way he works. He shows the chairs he makes and his customised tools, along with how to use them. As well as his shave horse design.

Well worth a look IMHO

Thanks for the link, Tom - well worth watching.
Brian makes wonderful chairs using traditional tools - hardly the modern mass-production method. But he's a very clever chap and is constantly pushing the boundarys of design, construction and tool design - and he knows his Bourbons, too
Cheers
Philly :D

Hey look, Brian's got his boots on. The master of the spokeshave strikes again - truly inspiring stuff.

Tom, you really shouldn't post stuff this interesting when I'm supposed to be working - thank God the boss isn't here

I think Roy needs to keep his hands to himself. He's a little too hands on with the guest in terms of the tools and stock.

Wizer,

that is a fascinating article, Brian is clearly very talented and has such an in-depth feeling for his working material.

Do you know of any other links to Brian's work?

Dave

Just his website Dave:

I have his two DVDs which are both good and his shaves, which are my fave hand tools. I also have some hickory bark (don't ask) ;)

That programme is always too rushed and I find it distracting. Why do they do it in one take?

I hope he comes back to the UK to do a course again. Gutted I missed it last time.

I want a set of those but Lie-Nielsen got at them and the price!!!!

Worth the price tag IMHO

Thanks for the tip - I'd noticed this one and the Corner Cupboard Part 2 were missing when the 2900 season went up.
Now I have them all!

Wonderful stuff Tom...I really like his show...if you can get over the fact that he looks like a hillbilly made by Gerry Anderson... :D

I simply love those thick joints on that cherry chair...beautiful lines...almost feminine.

I must get out on the porch when the weather breaks...got a fair amount of wittlin' to do!
