@Mike & Andy Kev: Re-reading the above, there's a "mis-comm". Sorry,my fault. When I read the post asking "Andy, where in Germany are you?" I thought it was aimed at me (I'm Andy too, hence my reply).

Sorry if any confusion caused

I was a little puzzled, so thanks for clearing that up. Do you prefer to be addressed as AES, Andy, or some other name?

Incidentally, while we're on the subject of teutonic tool shops: have you or AES ever visited either of the Dictum shops? The one near Metten (it moved about a year ago) is like paradise on earth and the Munich one runs it a close second.

I've never visited any of the Dictum shops, but I have done a lot of online business with them. I will make the trip one day.

Dictum offers in-house courses with English speaking instructors from time to time, such as Christopher Schwarz, Garrett Hack, John Lloyd, Jimmy Clewes, Thomas Fidgen, and at one time, David Charlesworth.

The one woodworking course I have found time to attend was a Dictum-run one with Garrett Hack as the instructor. It was billed as being suitable for absolute beginners and having been in possession of my first plane for about a month, I booked a place on it. Naturally I was the only complete beginner and while everybody else was getting on quite nicely with building their boxes, I spoke to GH and just practiced and practiced at planing and half lap dovetails. I actually learned a lot in terms of getting hours in and from his guidance. The fact remains though that now, about ten years later, I feel competent enough to attend a Garret Hack course.

What I will probably do though is the two intro to turning courses in order to see if I am capable of it, simply to see if I would be able to turn a chair leg. (Dictum does run courses for the genuinely clueless on a number of topics, that being one of them.)

I don't mind Mike K, either way. But as there's quite a few Andys on the Forum, Like loads of Mikes) probably AES is better? It's just that some people know me through PMs and name me as Andy so when I read "Andy" in your post I thought it was for me 'cos we'd "met" through PMs. Silly boy! Sorry.
