Brass and steel router plane.

Here's a little router plane I've been making over the past week or so.
It's brass and mild steel brazed together (big thanks to Phil Pascoe for the consumables for that) with a salvaged thumbscrew, and a small router plane blade from veritas. It measures 75x50x30mm.
All the shaping was done with a hacksaw and hand files! (boy that was a lot of filing...)

Thankyou! They are just brazed. I did think about putting a couple of pins in but I did a test braze with two pieces of mild steel and only a 5mm wide butt joint, a hammer wouldn't separate that so I don't think I'll bother!

That looks good and very useful as well. What sort of heat did you need to do the brazing?

I made a small hearth with some vermiculite boards, kept it as small as possible while still fitting the piece in. Even then I still needed to use two handheld butane torches to get the piece hot enough before the flux exhausted itself! If I do anything like this again in the future I'll probably invest in a MAPP torch!

That looks absolutely beautiful! Due to your attention to detail and its simplicity of design a true work of art.
Never heard of MAPP torches. I have a big green cylinder of propane gas for my BBQ. Would a MAPP torch link onto that?

Mapp is the gas, not specifically the torch.
