I have a bunch of interior DIY coming up and was tempted by a sale offer to order an air powered 18 gauge brad nailer.

Everyone else must have jumped on the deal too so when the seller still hadn't shipped it 3 weeks later, I cancelled the order.

Now I'm looking with more leisure to find the best model and I'd like the benefit of your experience please.

1. I'm looking for air power because I have a small portable compressor and won't have to carry it every day. I expect air to be lighter and more reliable long term.

2. I'm on Bosch and Fein batteries. I don't think either of these two specialise in nailers so that's another reason not to get battery powered.

3. I want 18 gauge for trim etc, 50 or 55mm max. Don't need staples.

4. There are two proven models that get very good reviews because of their slim noses allowing precise placement. The Bostitch BP12233 and one or two Dewalt "precise point" equivalent models.

I like Bostitch even though that brand (like DeWalt) is owned by Stanley Black & Decker who I thoroughly DISlike. Sadly, SBD don't distribute the BP12233 in the UK and the only way to get one is from small traders on Amazon UK.

Does anyone have any knowledge of the two above, to steer me towards or away from either of them ?

I'm not a pro, so do I absolutely need it ? No. But I prefer to pay a little more to buy good gear which I enjoy using and helps when it's time to sell it on.

Any aversion to a Makita version, 18 Gauge I have a couple of their 23 gauge headless pin guns, not had any issues with them, used all the time for glazing beads etc, had a Senco one but it decided to disasemble itself!

@Spectric's deal looks a bit to good to be true, but I'd give you a tenner for the free one if you buy 2!

As I said above, I have zero need for staples, but cheers, I can see they offer better value for those who do.

Got an 18 guage Draper one from machine mart, wasn`t expecting much but it is really good and fires up to 50mm which quite a lot don`t do.
Only way to adjust the power is via the compressors own guage but this is not too much bother.
I am thinking of getting a small in line regulator guage to put directly on it because my compressor is upstairs.
Never misfired or bent a nail.

A brad nailer is for fixing trim and leaves very little marks to tidy up afterwards, my Senco has performed well doing everything I needed but I have not had any need for staples, my other nailer is a 16g Dewalt

which is good for fixing paneling and larger mouldings but does leave more of a mark to deal with and takes 64mm nails.

Is the Dewalt equivalent of the Bostitch I'm looking for. 18ga so smaller than your 16.

I've no aversion to Makita air tools. Good kit. I just like Bostitch having bought their 23ga pinner.
I can get a Bostitch equivalent of the Makita easily, it's the models with the high visibility fine nose and rear positioned safety contact that are harder to get hold of and that's the feature I'm curious about.

I have a Machine mart gun - "Just works" - never any problem with it.
It may meet your needs.

I brought a Tacwise DGN50V Air Brad Nail Gun last year and have been very pleased with it, £50 Amazon. I did have a cheaper one which jammed but it did make me realise how good a brad nailer could be.
Built a pair of alcove cupboards in MDF (MDF also a new thing to me).

I got one for one job. It never jams, easy to load, very cheap. I've had it for 3 years

Is your yellow one well built ?

There is not a huge difference in the Dewalt and the Senco, I started off looking at expensive brad nailers but soon thought that I am not going to be using one on a daily basis and that was when I read a good review on the Senco brand now owned by Kyocera. Another good nailer was from Porter Cable and not always readily available in the UK but unfortunately like Dewalt they are now Black and Decker.

First one I picked up was a small cheap thing from Lidl but then I decided I needed something a little better so grabbed one of these although I can’t remember how much I paid but it’s not let me down yet and am very happy with its quality..
