Braces (or suspenders if you must!)

I'm trying to find some non-elasticated braces for my work trousers - they need to fix with clips and be "Y shaped" (i.e. single clip at the back) - not too fussed about patterns or colours (but I don't really want to look like Tommy Walsh back when he was on Ground Force!)

I've looked in all the usual places but drawn a blank so far (the temptation is to get some webbing and make them using clips from an elasticated pair but that's a last resort)

Any ideas please?

Any gents outfitters will do old fashioned non elastic braces but probably not cheap

do you have a belt on the trousers - I use the toughbuilt braces - but with a toolbelt , although you could fix onto a built around the trouser loops
they are supposed to come with belt loops

I had looked at something smilar but a bit overkill for what I want (as a DIY-er) - and carrying tools around my waste is a no-no (I can't wear trousers with a belt for medical reasons)

Agree , i thought overkill - but after various amazon purchases and also an outfitter - I have found these very useful

if the trousers have belt hooks , they may fit in to those ok

But i understand , the overkill comment

I just went to garage and looked at mine , they are the same as the toolstation ones much smaller looking , as i say i got them off the toughbuilt stand at the D&M toolshow

looking on the toughbuilt site , can only find 1 pair , but they do look different

I had seen them - but they are X-shaped - I want Y-shaped with a single clip at the back, as OP.

Sorry - my original spec was confusing - I meant that the long part of the Y is no-stretch but the short part of the Y at the back is elasticated/stretchy - to obviate the off-the-shoulder situation.

[I did have a pair, for business suit purposes, when red braces in the financial services industry were a thing - think Gordon Gecko!!!]

If you had a pair where all three legs were elasticated, could you sew a non-elastic material to the two front legs to achieve what you want?

people have more money than sense at those prices - mind you I think I paid about USD$60 for my red braces in a shop just off Wall Street in New York in 1991!


I've been looking at the elasticated braces I have together with some 2" wide webbing and I think I can cobble something together to create the Y-shape that I'm looking for with non-stretch fronts . . . . watch this space
