I’m in the process of making some boxes based on a couple of designs by Robert Ingham. I also did the suede lining following Custard’s excellent work through.

Various woods including London Plane, Walnut, Zebrano, Birds Eye Maple, Box

I really like those, very smart designs.
Workmanship looks very good.
You should be very pleased with them :D

Thanks - I thought they would make a change from the usual type of boxes and lids and maybe simpler to make - I was very wrong about that :)

I’m making them for my Grandkids and have two more to finish off.

Looks excellent. Recently bought this book from a forum member, this is on the front cover I think. Nice to see someone attempt it, some of the stuff in the book is terrifyingly complex :)

Thanks and yes though he’s not published any details just photos.
I couldn’t work out his hinging system which involves a dowel so I’ve just used brass pins.
His work is very precise and he uses lots of jigs.
I resorted to my metal working lathe to precisely cut the round discs to mate with the 40mm hole I’d cut with a Forstner bit.

The boxes are for my Granddaughters and they chose the woods I used.

Those are a very cool design. Excuse the newbie question but what is that type of joint is the mitres on the box corners? Looks very tricky to make.

Yes except mine was from Wealden. The wood I used was 12mm thick which is about as small it can go

Lots of videos on utube about setting it up to achieve this

Cut one piece horizontally

And one piece vertical using a simple jig to keep things steady

I should have used this temporary fence which I’d forgotten about!

Thanks for that.

I made two more just before Christmas using walnut and London Plane for the lids.

They were gifts to our Grandchildren.
