I decided to have a go at compound mitre angle and to see if i could lift the internal of a lid in a sort of cut off pyramid shape, (hopefully you will understand from the pics) but once again got carried away
i started off with a piece of oak and cut 4 strips at 40mm x 20mm
then started to plane the edges on the shooting board like so
the pencil shading was planed off as well. I forgot to take a pic of the finished pieces
problem was that i rushed into it and the pieces didnt turn out to be wide enough to have any impact and i could have quite easily just laid the oak flat and planed one edge. I could have kicked myself, but at least the joints were spot on and every piece was identical.
anyway with that confidence boost i got carried away
and ended up with these pieces oak, sapele, and oak burr (i think :? )
which in turn when glued together looks like this
all by hand apart from the groove for the panel and mitres were cut to rough size by saw then brought to finish on the shooting board
in hindsight i could have glued strips of sapele and oak together and then planed the angles, but what the ****. Next time maybe.
