Hi George,
I certainly like the finish on these pieces and I can understand how the re-cutting of the thread has meant a difference in the two halves. I have admired the previous sets and wonder if there is a particular use for them?
Nice job,
Regards,
Ian

There not really intended to be used especially as they are hollowed out through a 13/15 mm hole!! purely decorative, i really must get a stand sorted- i didnt get chance for the asian ones
I wasnt having the best of days yesterday-I will post an updated balanced pic later today

cheers Rich your ast abrasive worked brillantly and a very competeive price to boot :D

Great finish George,

On balance I think I prefer the ebony/boxwood combo but I am intrigued by the acrylic materials. Very nearly succumbed during a recent trip to Axminster but SWMBO reminded me I already have no space to store any more materials.

Keep them coming :D :D :D :D

Regards,

Mike C

well, i wasn't having a good day yesterday it certainly didn't get any better today

I broke the male threaded spigot on the marble box trying to regain symmetry- it was weak just behind the thread due to the escape route cut. then i made a hash of the male thread again on the leopard box, just like i did on the marble one but i tried to put it right and it wasn't having it so that was that- finally i managed to finish the zebra box but even that wasn't without issues as i tried to carve the ends but couldn't get them to look right so i had to remount them and true them up to points instead

anyway lessons learned on this new material:
allot more brittle than wood.
less margin for error on the fit of the threads.
take a very fine whisp of a shaving of the threads to remove the crowns and they work much better.

shame about the broken one's george but acrylic is a fickle beast, as you have found out many light cuts.
I think the finish is brilliant and i like the zebra one, would like to see some in other acrylic colours too.

So will you continue to use this material George. Do you think your customers want this?

dont know yet tom

maybe mike but now the chucking spigots gone it would be very difficult to remount it and cut a recess for the boxwood in the same concentricity as the box.

Yes I guess its not worth the effort if this is a trial piece.

I do like some of the acrylic materials, I think there is great scope for combining these with wood to maybe lift an otherwise uninteresting piece of timber.

Carry on the great work. :D :D :D

Mike C
