I like very much....

Is that rope edging(?) round the top..?

How did you join it and does the join 'show'..?

Nick

Beautiful and the rope beading works well IMHO.

Only thing I would change is that the foot looks a little too long for my personal taste. Just enough to lift it off the deck would be enough. May be the angle of the photo though.

Love the rope edging/detail, and a nice finish.

For me the texturing on the rim could have been a touch more or left out altogether.
I agree the foot is a tad long too.

Lovely overall though (and it's made my inspiration and ideas folder!).

Very nice John,

Love the brass fillings.

Would a hemp rope suit better though than the nylon ?

Lovely looking wood John.
Nice shape and Looks well finished.
Not to keen on the foot,it does look too high, nor the rope meself,i think a nice bead would have looked as good, and the inner edge looks too sharp.
Any chance of a piccy without the rope on :?:

Fraid not. The cord is glued on.

Good,

I personally love the combination of materials in this type of work. I can't tell what type of cord you have used here but I would choose natural material but this looks fine as is.

Hi John, I like the effect of the cord, it suits the timber perfectly. The timber its self is lovely.
However I'm not keen on the foot as others have said I find it a bit tall, I'm also not sure about the shape of the bottom part of the bowl for me it doesn't quite go with the fancy rim, I think it would have been better less bulbous/more simple to make that stunning rim design stand out even more.

That sounds awfully critical of something which is rather nice

Not at all JT,
the whole purpose of 'Critique' is to get as many different views on a piece of work. Good and bad.
I find it enormously helpful in designing my work when you get a number of different views.
(Especially if you want to sell them.) 8)

I am sorry but I am not keen on the foot or the rope.
The shape of the bowl is very nice though and you have got a lovely finish :D

A little fact if you are interested about London Plain
The Romans planted loads of these in their day, in the south of France and mayby elsewhere they taxed the locals for the shade the trees gave :D

Hi John,
I love London plane and you have made a very attractive piece here. I like the rope and it would be good to see the way you have dealt with the ends of the rope. I am inclined to agree with some of the other comments regarding the foot but I know all to well that a photograph can distort of confuse the actual look of the piece.
Overall I like the way it all works together,
Regards,
Ian

John, for my euros worth its a cracker. Love everything about it,I would imagine it has turned out exactly as you had hoped,Lovely. REgards Boysie.

Thank you gents for your comments,
Nick & Ian,
This a side view which shows where the cord goes and the foot height which is 10mm the other dimensions are:
overall height-75mm, Diameter -160mm, foot-55mm dia.

Loz,
yep I think hemp would have probably looked better but cord was all I had. :?

Eugine,
It came out very different to what was planned, cos it was almost finished when I had an almighty dig-in which brought it out of the chuck like a missile, it then bounced off the roof trusses, hit three walls and ended up at the other end of the shed.
(I found it after getting up from the floor where I had dived)
Looked at all the damaged edges, and started on the salvage job.
and the pics were the result. (Twas an exciting few seconds, I can tell you.)

Nice work John. How have you done the texturing?

Love it...... :D

Possibly the only change i'd make would have been to use green rope (to match the texturing), but if like you say that's all you had......

And if you don't mind.... i'm gonna have a go at a similar thing myself.... apart from the texturing, cos i've not got a tool for the job
