I'm thinking of getting one of these but thought I'd ask here if anyone here had used or own one? The only Bosch power tool was a green hammer drill (not sds) about 12 years ago. It saw quite a bit of use during my apprenticeship but it died (sparking and smelling not too good from what I recall  ). I've heard the blue bosch is better but having never owned or used any of the blue stuff, is it any good and hard wearing?

I normally buy Makita everything but I've never got on with Makita planers (don't like the shape) and I'd like a planer with ejection ports on both sides, being left handed I get covered in chippings which is annoying (especially in my trainers - itchy)

thanks

Hi,

I have a green one, not as flash I know, but is very good. The only gripe which I am sure is common to most is that it clogs inside easily as there seems to be some kind of lip inside the port that catches on the shavings. This can be a bit annoying but other than that it works very well. When you need to use on its side too and swapping over the left and right ports are very handy.

Good luck with whatever you buy.

I have had one of these (26-82) for a while now and have no complaints. I bought it because I had to fit a new hardwood front door and and frame and thought the amount of hand planing involved was too much for my poor weak arms! The Bosch cut through the hardwood with ease and left a very smooth finish.

The switchable ejector port is a very useful feature and fits my vac so that the chips don't go over you or the floor.

The only issue I have had with this machine (which I think is an issue with all power planers) is that it cuts through wood so easily that you have to be very careful and controlled in what you use it for or it cuts too much off what you are working on.

Regards

Jonathan

Thanks for the replies :D I ended getting this planer and have been pleased with it so far, infact very impressed. It's great to have an ambidexterous planer at last. I was getting a bit sick of the safety catch being designed for right handed use and the same with the ejection port. It's also a bonus to finally use a planer with a shavings bag. Even though it needs emptying a lot, it sure as hell beats hoovering chippings from a carpet.

Was nice to get a spare double sided cutter too. Thought I'd ask, as a bit of preparation for when I finally do need to get some new cutters, wheres the cheapest place to get the Bosch woodrazor cutters from?

Thanks again :D

Cheapest place I've found for Bosch razors is eBay (surprise).

It's worth checking the "feedback" section on potential sellers, however. I've had nothing but good luck getting these for my GHO 31-82 (the previous Bosch blue planer model), but have heard stories of generic blades being sold in Bosch packaging.

Also, I'd suggest using this with a shop vac and getting the sort of deluxe adjustable side fence (same one as for the "blue" belt sander, I think). It's been much more useful to me than the generic 90 degree one)

Thanks, Jim
