I enjoy a good discussion about the hand saw notch as much as the next man... but looky here, here's a pair of notches the like I've not seen before.

The saw is a Disston and the two notches appear to be neatly formed in among the teeth.

Any idea what purpose these notches served ?

The teeth seem to be quite fine for the size of the saw, so no deep gullets. Could the notches be an attempt to improve clearing sawdust from the kerf?

No idea.

Does this saw type with this aberration appear in any Disston catalogue?

If the enlarged photograph is accurate, the shape of the front notch appears to differ slightly to the rear one and the first tooth immediately behind it appears a little larger than its neighbours.......
The notches may be user-generated for a reason we can only guess.

I'll bet one of the set teeth started a crack and the crack was filed out to prevent it from progressing.

For sure, I thought this thread was going to be a play on "buenos noches"

Bonus notches, buenos noches.
