Swimbo wants a blanket box to go across the end of our bed ( W140cm, D50cm, H60cm ) after the bendy bookcase ferrago she isn't convinced of my making skills ( sob, sniffle, blub etc) so I was wondering if any of you guys would be interested and could give me a price.

Ideally we would like it in pine (Can't afford oak) to match the Ikea Leksvik bed ( I know i know an ikea bed ... hangs head in shame), but we'd also be interested in a price fo doing it in (gulp) mdf.

We are near swindon so you would need to be able to deliver to there.
It would be great if you could post a ball park price on this thread and if anyone is interested in the job please pm me with your contact details.

I would have thought ball park figures from a pro workshop would be about £800 - £1000 for Oak £500 - £700 in pine and about £250 - £300 in MDF. A lot would depend on the style and design of the piece. A forum member would probably be able to be significantly cheaper as they probably dont have to charge £30 per hour to cover overheads and wages.

I built a headboard out of MDF and the lady wanted it painted,I hate that stuff so I charged her 50.00.....it does sand nice, but way to dusty.Oh that was for a single bed with a star painted on it with two towers(One on each side )Painted silver....

Bit harsh, charging your wife £50 for anything, let alone when it has something to do with bed :D :D :D !!

I assume that bith Olly snd Rob are offering their services (paid) to help you build it yourself. Which was exactly what I was thinking as I read your post. You will learn so much. In fact it's the only way I really learn and remember a skill. Such as when Chris (Waterhead37) taught me some carving and spokeshave skills. I can use those tools with complete confidence now.

In fact this is reminding me of something....

Nah not for my house....this lady I met thru a friend, told her I would like to make it out of hard wood but she didn`t want to pay that much...so I did it but had no fun making it. I like to make things that last....

Wish I could help besom, but I will be in the 'krankenhausen' in a few days for some metal knees!

It did occur to me, that if someone did this job for you, they could do it 'flat-pack' and let you assemble it yourself. That might save a bomb on getting it to you. Shame really. Swindon is a pretty well-known trip for me!

Good Luck Bro.
