Does anyone clean their blades before use? I read that sometimes that oil on the blade can be a cause of the blade popping out of the holder when in motion, makes sense :)

I have never heard or read about this before.

I have never degreased a blade, and never had any slip, in many years of scroll sawing, getting through thousands of blades.

Take care.

Hello Moshe and Chris :) Like Moshe I too have the Sealey and since buying it in December I have tried three different makes of blades, Hobbies, Olson and Pegas,
all of which have popped out at some point. The Pegas blades especially seemed stuck together coming out of the packet. Perhaps the blades holders are soft on the
Sealey, or it could be down to being a beginner and incorrect blade tension :)

There has been a lot of discussions regarding degreasing.almost become an Urban Myth. I have never degreased a blade since the early fifties , I believe some manufacturers have allowed oil to remain on finished products but who they are is a mystery.
It is worth reading what Mike at Flying Dutchman says about this

Like many thers I have never bothered cleaning up blades, Imagine how long this would take when I have four gross of each blade pop through the letter box. I have had a blade slip out of the clamps from time to time and then I just clean the clamps up sliding some fine abrasive in the clamp slots and cleaning up the allen bolts and I am good for another year or so. Muxh easier than cleaning the blades.

When I started scrolling, and knew no better, I bought a few packets of new old stock Eclipse blades off ebay - still got some - and they were blathered in oil. The people I have given some to must have been put off for life and are probably still cursing me.
