Today is Black Friday in Uncle Sam's Land. If someone was thinking in buying some tools from American, lots of websites are giving an extra discount today :D

Just had a quick look on www.toolking.com while I was there I looked at the Festool OF1400 router.

It was only $405 which works out at £195 has anyone bought any US Festool stuff and had it shipped here I wondered is it worth doing.

In the UK that router is £358 so as it is its a good saving but obviously there would be shipping and import , vat etc etc on top.

There is also the issue of different operating voltage and frequency (120V, 60Hz US Vs 230V, 50Hz UK) for power tools to take into account if you don't have a site transformer.

Doesn't matter anyway as I have just spent the router money on a shiney new set of golf clubs

But often it's the Hertz that hurts. Some motors designed for 60Hz are unhappy on 50Hz. No idea which ones tho'

Brush motors AKA series motors are OK at virtually any frequency, even DC. It's induction motors (which don't have brushes, sort of thing you would find in a large table saw etc) which rely on the mains frequency to run at the correct speed
