I spent a very enjoyable hour on the web today browsing Bill Carters Website. The quality of the craftsmanship is outstanding and Bill is generous enough to provide a considerable amount of 'how to' information on the site.

I daresay quite a few people on the forum are already familiar with it , but for those who are not, well worth a visit;

Certainly got me thinking about having a go at a small metal plane, although I suspect he's making it look easier than it really is...

Cheers, Ed.

You're right - Bill is a Gent, and more than happy to explain his methods. His planes are quite wonderful - he ages them so they look "well used" out of the box. You don't feel scared of getting fingerprints on them :lol:
Best regards
Philly :D

Beautiful workmanship, but the design is horrid! I wonder if the Holtley method is worth trying to attach the sides to the bottom?

As Philly has already mentioned, Bill is a true gent. I spent a while chatting to him and his lovely wife Sarah at Westonbirt recently. His work is truly amasing, the cupids bow dovetails really are something else!! :shock: :shock: :shock:

I've been lucky enough to visit him at his home and had a rummage in his workshop. :lol:
As others have said they are a really nice couple.

What surprised & inspired me was Bill's insistence on using low tech. Its pure hand skills only for him. So far as I could see the only 'lecy he used was a manky old grinder that you Tormech lads would not give time of day.
