I though that I had better use the opportunity of this, the post that will earn me my promotion to woodworker \:D/ , to introduce myself. I know, I know, it's a bit late for that really, what can I say

To paraphrase Kevin Ley in F&C; On leaving a career in IT, Nick turned a hobby into a full-time business. The move happened very nearly three years ago, after one too many take-overs, and with the generous and loving support of the LOML. The first half of year 1 was spent converting and extending my double garage into a bigger workshop, though of course it is still too small  . In year 2 I actually made a small profit (<£100), and at the end of this year, unless my accountant can come up with something really clever, I may have to pay some tax

Most of my time in IT was spent creating high end CAD and GIS software, hence my interest in SketchUp, though I also use an AutoCAD-alike, and as soon as I sort myself out with a decent amount of permanent web space, I will start posting some stuff from there, along with some pics of my work, workshop, :tool:s, Avatar etc..

The heady heights of "Woodworker", eh? Congrats
Thanks for sharing a little of your history-so you actually made a profit this year? Nice one :D Working for yourself is tough at first but worth it in the end.
Keep up the good work,
Philly :D

Sheesh, Nick, 50 posts before an introduction?! What are you thinking? (Me? 7196 posts and still not done one...  ) Gonna be troubling the tax man eh? Congrats - kinda... :?

Cheers, Alf

Hi Nick

Well done.

I'm sure that there are lots of people here who would be very interested in hearing how you made the transition and also, the type of work that you are doing.

Cheers,
Neil
