hi
i'm looking into buying a bench top drill press without paying stupid money ( £150 or less), any recomendations, looked at Axi but i'm not sure of quality..

TIA

Hi, Steve

I was going to suggest a s/h Fobco/Meddings but a quick look on Ebay shows them at extraordinary prices!

I have a Axminister one and a Fobco, the Axminister one is good, the Fobco is under my bench at the moment waiting for a new/enlarged workshop.

You are welcome to pop round and have a look.

Pete

I've got an Axminster (the same one Doug has in fact) its unremarkable, but OK for the price.

Having said that, the chuck has just gone to pot on mine, but they are replacing it despite being out of warranty.

Thanks guys,
Pete, just looked at fobco products, think i'll give it a miss, need a mortgage...
Ed i will ask Doug what drill he has as i'm not sure..

Tryb a look at

www.apexauctions.co.uk

They clear whole factories.

I have bought a Meddings floor model drill press for £45 plus sellers premium+VAT. These auctions are frequented by many "dealers" doing a restock.

I have also bought a Spindle Moulder and copious tooling for £285 +sp+vat. A remarkable precision drill called an Elliot-Progress 3 which is a floor standing model which weighs in at 2840 Lbs. Holy reinforcement Batman.

Obviously you need to be aware of VAT and SP and prices can spiral out of your control but worth a look.

Alan
