Bed building advice required

Hi everyone.

I'm looking to build a bed with a few specific requirements.
It's going to be a platform style bed similar to this minimalist design:

The only place it can go in this particular room is in front of a window, meaning that the head board would block a considerable amount of light from the room.

I was wondering if it would be possible to make a headboard that would raise and lower?
Then during the day I can slide it down so that it's not taking away the natural light.

Any ideas as to what would be the best way to accomplish this?

Rip head board in 2 equal parts. Connect them with strap or similar hinges and re-enforce
with removable sliding dovetailed battens ( when head board is in the raised position).
Also, I imagine, an advanced internet search would probably result in some spring loaded
or pneumatic hardware that does the job at the press of a button.
There might even be an app for it.

Depends on the window. From experience i can say that with single glazed windows and a cold night it's very comforting if the headboard is high enough so the cold air rolling off the windowsill falls behind the headboard, and thus not on the pillow!

It's about two and a half feet tall, and I was going to make the bed so the height was roughly three feet from the floor for the top of the headboard.

I see your point, though I kind of want a decently sized headboard on there so I can rest my back against it and sit up. We have a TV on the opposite room.

I'm all for making stuff to behave the way I want it to, but I think a two part headboard might be going a bit far.
But is this a bed sit room? normally you wouldnt care about the natural light because you wouldnt be in the room during the day.

Why not make a nursery cot style board with spindles? then you wont lose the light and all you need is a big pillow to rest against
