Hi folks.

Has anyone had any experience with Wealden's bearing guided thumb-moulding cutters please?

I think Wealden can be trusted, but before I buy I would welcome any input.

TIA

John :)

I have one and found it very good. There is a thread on the projects section about a curved mirror frame in ABW (circular maybe) that was made using one of these cutters. Have a look at that.

It was me that posted that about the circular mirror - and now I have bought and used the slightly smaller one as well - they are both outstanding you will not regret buying them

Thanks Mark,

The cutter looks quite a chunk of metal. I don't use a router table, so it looks like small bites of the cherry in overhead mode! Next months woodwork fund looks to be spent already!

Obliged.

No worries Mark.

With a 4 foot by 18 inch worktop to mould, I couldn't use a router table, unless it was a big 'un! So it will be very small bites...

I would not use the bigger of the Thumb mould cutters freehand. It would be worth making a temporary router table for this job. Even a quarter of a sheet of MDF with a whole in it would do.
That said I note Wealdon only recommend a routertable for this cutter!

Yes indeed PAC...

I have a Trend tufnol router table, so what I will do is mount that in a larger sheet of MDF (Bob 9fingers supplied me with the ideal stuff)

So I'll be using the router table itself as an insert! I have two good sawhorses to which I can clamp the MDF, so I will be fine. Even so, small bites are going to be better anyhow!

Thanks gents
I am obliged as ever.

John :)
