Hey

Ive just moved and im gonna be putting upa shed for my lathe, trouble is a concrete base is out of the question, If i lay heavy duty slabs on a sand and hardcore base, will that be good enough or stand up to the vibrations from the lathe?

Thanks

If a complete concrete base is out of the question, what about a couple of concrete pads big enough for the feet of the stand to sit on ?
Otherwise, the heavier the better - don't know if slabs would be okay without the lathe being bolted down or not ; if you turn many off-centre or off-balance pieces,it might walk about ?

The base would be level (as levele as slabs can be) but thats about the best i can hope for, not sure how easy it is to bolt down the bench on to the slabs, its soemthing ill have to look into at a later date.

I would make 2 concrete columns for the lathe to sit on that come up level with the shed floor , easy enough with a bit of shuttering , go down about 2 feet deep , while the concrete is still wet you can put some studding in with one end bent 90 degrees , drop that end into the wet cement about 9 inches , so when the cement dry s you can bolt the lathe down nice and solid ,
