Rare maker, odd size... Those darn collectors...
On the Bay, who's selling it really affects how much people are willing to pay. Those sellers that restore tools before listing (like "barnes" something or other) tend to sell things at otherwise unreasonable prices.

Heh - prices are set by buyers, not sellers.

It doesn't sit well with the oft-repeated advice not to clean/restore valuable antiques because you'll reduce the value?!

I cleaned all the paint and putty of my 22mm EAB chisel, that I paid 10p for, if that has devalued it, oh well!

I have no beef with collectors. Over on oldtools, someone wanted to make a replacement part for a rare
tool he'd found, in poor condition.

One of those evil collectors (with a virtually new example) was able to give
him detailed measurements.

That auction is "private listing - bidders' identities protected", so there could all manner of dodgy going ons there.
Not that the normal auctions gives out that much info on bidders and bidding anyway.

Somebody wanted it.

A lot.

Actually you need 2 or more bidders. Eg, highest bidder bids £100, second highest bids £10; final price is £10.50.
