Currently in the process of building a bar for my house so I thought I'd share the proggress on here. I'm making it out of mainly reclaimed materials I've managed to collect, the main frame is just 3x2 lap jointed together and will house a 1940's twin pump beer engine. The front and sides will be frame and raised panels, the frames being what I guess is Sapele and the raised panel's made from old parquet that I got ages ago but lost the will to live cleaning it! There will also be a plinth and a foot rest running around the base, bar top will be reclaimed mahogany that looks like it has been used as threshold plates in the past.
Sapele frames made using a kitchen door router bit set.
My plan is to glue up the frames and fix them to the bar by screwing up from behind with the parquet panels being held by the rebate at the back of the frames, but left to float to a degree, will that work okay?
Here's some photos of the progress so far

I don't have a sofa, I felt a bar was the next ppriority after a bed room and bathroom!
Bit of a faf this afternoon scribing the ends of the top and bottom rails on the router table due to their length, I probably would have been better off doing it with a hand held router but I got it sorted in the end. (No photos of the very heath robbinson jig!) Anyway it all fits together fairly well so I hope to get the frame glued up over the next couple of days.

Not much progress recently due to an invasion of relatives and the need show them round and generally keep them entertained, anyway frame is glued up.

Well that was a total balls up, even though I measured and marked eack piece of the frame I some how managed to glue the whole thing up with the central uprights way out of line.
The glue is bloody good stuff though :|
Back to the drawing board......

After a few days brooding over my incompetence, a trip to the timber yard and firing up the router table I'm ready to glue again. As a slight up side, although I actually had to pay for the new timber the grain is a lot more interesting than the previous attempt. Also included is a picture of the set up used to scribe the ends of the top and bottom rails while keeping the length square to the cutter (probably far easier to do it with a hand held router! )

Bit of progress at last, new frame glued up measurements checked multiple times and this time it's all square. A bit of tung oil and it's starting to look like something.
I'm not sure how to deal with the corner on the right hand side, I've made the front panel wide enough so it overlaps the end the same amount as its depth so the end panel will finish flush. Would a straight butt and glue joint be okay or will it need biscuits or I could get a set of corner lock jointers as they'll come in handy elsewhere (caution slope!)

Go with good glue and the biscuits for economy.
Or bo**ocks to the slope and buy a Domino - in fact get a domino in each size and the mitre lock cutter just in case!!

That's probably what I would do.... :?

Bit more progress, glued more parquet up for the side panels and the door, made the frame work from the remains of my earlier mistake. The side will be the same a the front only with 2 small outer panels and a larger inner one that will be the door. I cut the frame at 45deg in an attempt to conceal the door a bit when it's all together, not sure how well that's going to work but time will tell.

Not being one to rush things, progress has been slow!
And I was waiting for the elm I'm using for the bar top to dry.
