I don't do much carving but I bought a spoon knife a couple of years ago on here and it has been stored in the temporary packaging sheath of newspaper and tape that it arrived in since. I have been meaning to sort something better for a while.

By chance, I saw a YouTube video last night about making something for a hook knife, and with not much better to do I say in the slight sunshine for an hour and made this from a couple of bits of scrap. It isn't good carving but sometimes a bit of chillout time is nice. I will do some more when I have a bit of time. Pine is not very nice to carve, the old and dry oak pin material was even less pleasurable but I have something functional. It will get a bit of finish on it the next time I have something open.

Exactly. And if I find myself at a similar loose end with some slightly more suitable timber (or minded to hook up power to the bandsaw and lathe) I know how to make an improved one!
