Just bought a new bandsaw, Record Power BS250.
I would like to make a circle cutting jig but not sure how to go about making one, any advice would be appreciated on how to make one.

Regards Carl

I made one by attaching a piece of ply to the bandsaw flush with the table and coming off to the side.To this is attached a fold down leg to the floor.Into the ply, several holes are drilled at 1cm intervals.A moveable dowel is then placed in one of the holes at the correct radius.Say you wanted a 600mm circle.Cut a piece of material at 600x600,set your dowel at 300mm,drill a hole centrally in the square of material to match the dowell and drop it on the jig. Then simply turn into the blade.

Hope that makes sense.

Correction. Not flush with the table but sat on top and pushed up so it is adjacent to the blade.I'm confusing myself now.

Thanks for the info it has been very helpful, well detailed diagrams, what a lot of difference these forums make.

Regards Carl

I made one similar - only took maybe 10 mins.

the pivot point is a nail driven through the sliding center. and I use a screw to as a hold down for now

One thing you have to watch for with BS circle jigs is drift. We all know about drift when trying to cut a straight line, but the same problem can arise with circles. The result is that you cut a spiral rather than a circle.

The solution is to make it adjustable so that the pivot point can be adjusted towards and away from you, as necessary. I achieved this by drilling and tapping the BS table and having a slot in the baseboard of the jig. A thumbscrew holds the jig base down, but it can be adjust to and fro as required.
My jig

Sorry there is only the one photo, I don't have any diagrams. It was a long time ago.

Cheers
Steve
