Bandsaw choice - 10" resaw capacity req.

Hi all.

Minor victory this week with the new Sedgwick all calibrated, commissioned and lovely. Put about 60m of mixed stock through her so far and it's all peachy.

I'm now at the point of looking for a bandsaw. Had a look at the usual suspects like the 352 and so on, but a bit sceptical of the lack of power on offer. Main requirements are 10" minimum resaw capacity for oak and walnut and a power requirement of 16amp single phase with a max load draw of less than 10 amps. It also cannot be over 170cm high.

Is there anything around that might meet these criteria. Am I searching for the unicorn of bandsaws?

Hi Martin, have a look at the range of bandsaws from RECORD, as they would have something suitable and have a five year guarantee with all their machines.

When you do eventually make your selection there are a couple of things that will help you when getting it to run smoothly.
Get the best by looking at 'Alex Snodgrass of Carter Induistries has an excellent video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGbZqWac0jU on a tune up method that works well, but if you want to get the best use of your bandsaw on an ongoing basis, then the Steve Maskery DVD's will show you far more and they are a real investment. http://www.workshopessentials.com/shop/ '.

Do those small saws really resaw 10 inches in practise?
I have been taught that for that kind of resawing you need a wide blade if you want a reasonable feed speed. A wide blade means big wheels.

Is that 175 cm the ceiling height where the saw will stand or is it the height of some opening on the way there?

heimlaga it's the ceiling height. It's a bit of a long story how that came to be. It is being torn down and replaced shortly so then I'll have 2.5m to work with all being well.

I think I'm definitely going to looking for something that is over capacity for what I need.
