Has anyone used the woodslicer bandsaw blade from Highland hardware in the states? I am looking for a good resaw blade that can cope with a 10" cut in hardwood.

I've not used Woodslicer blades personally but I buy all my blades from Dragon Saws, based in Wales:

Dragon Saws Ltd

Unit 13, Duffryn Business Park, Ystrad Mynach, Caerphilly, CF82 7RJ

Tel: 01443 819910 Fax: 01443 819911 email: [email protected]

They offer an excellent service and, if you speak to them, they should be able to help you out, I'd have thought.

Try doing a search of this forum for woodslicer, it will throw up several posts for that and other resaw blades.

I have some woodslicers, very pleased with them but I have not used blades from Dragon or Dure edge so cannot compare them.
I think cutting 10" boards is more down to the size of your saw, my EB315 will cut 6" of oak or beech with a woodslicer fitted, I had to mode part of the guard to get clearance for one of the boards I resawed.

Another vote for Dragon great blades and bloody nice people especially Ian John...

The Woodslicer is a very good blade but will be pretty slow at cutting 10” hardwood and blade life will suffer because you are cutting hardwood and because of the thickness that you are cutting.
What bandsaw do you have? If you can fit a 1” blade on your machine, then go for a 1” blade and I would go for a courser tooth pitch as well.
If you are cutting a lot of hardwood then it might be worth considering an M42 blade.

Steve – the kits that I’ve seen have been pretty poor and a bit hit and miss at actually joining the blades and keeping the blade joined!
Joining the blades isn’t too much of a problem, it’s getting the annealing right after they’ve been joined that can be a problem – especially on the thin gauge hobby blades that will be used on the small bandsaws.
The join needs to be pretty strong but flexible enough to fit around the wheels – lots of patience and practice is needed!

Any decent saw supplier should be able to supply the bandsaw blades that you want in the right length to fit your machine

No but I can highly recommend band-saw blades from Hamilton Edge. Their 1/2" and 3/4" meat and fish blades are superb for re sawing and producing veneer. Their major advantage is the narrow kerf which is worth considering on expensive figured hardwoods.

For what it is worth I buy hardwood from John Boddy's Boroughbridge
