Has anyone got one of these are they anygood ?

Hi Chippy,

I've got the smaller bench mounted one. Very impressed!! Has good capacity, is east to adjust and the depth stop is great once you get the hang of it!

The only downer on it that I found was to tilt the table you need to undo a large nut (Aprox 25mm) and they don't supply a spanner with it but otherwise I would have no problems recommending it to any one!

Hope this helps,

Richard

Cheers Richard,

Is it a solid built drill I saw a cheap one a while back and it wobbled about as you lowered the drill and the whole thing shook about, but that was a £40 Wickes one so I suppose thats why.

I have seen the Record ones in the flesh and they are very solid but I only intend using it every now and then so dont want to spend too much on one.

Hi,

I have the Axminster floorstanding one it was off Ebay they where selling off the last three adjustable speed ones, its good cuts a 1/2 inch hole in 6mm steel with out complaint the 500W motor runs quietly. The table tilts down at the back slightly but not enough to worry about and its got a good keyless chuck. So I am well pleased with it.

I've got the bench version- otherwise identical. It's does a good job. It is sturdy with an 80mm column. I haven't noticed any flex. The keyless chuck (Axminster) is especially good. I haven't noticed any play in the spindle after 8 years of fairly regular use. The only niggle I have with it is that speed changing is a right bloody faff. There are 2 belts via an intermediate pulley. The motor doesn't swing forward quite enough to allow either belt to be easily shifted. Its got marginally better as the belts have stretched a little but still a pain. But for the money, it's a good buy.
