I was in axminster yesterday and looked over the sab4300 bands whilst one of their staff was hovering ready to pounce.

So I said to the salesman, "how do you set up the fence, it appears rigid and fixes to the front and back rail"
He looked at me a bit , you know, if I asked a dumb question.

I explained to him that my existing ba/sa, the fence angle could be changed to track the angle that the bands blade is inclined to follow.
He said something like, you set the blade bearings guide and the blade cuts following the fence , (which is fixed square to the table).
I intimated thats not the case.
Does anyone have the above model?
And would it be better with a fence that is more mobile?

I am not sure if you mean you expect the fence to be readily changed in an instant or adjusted if required. My version of the 4300 has 4 allen bolts that go through the top of the fence down into the part that slides on the front rail so can be adjusted there. I have no dificulty with mine and I am pretty certain it's the same fence.

Thanks Allan.
So I can draw a pencil line on a piece of timber put it to the blade without the fence, find the angle it is cutting, and then change the fence angle if required?
But if the fence is also fixed at the back end how does adjustment come about at that end.?

The fence isn't fixed at the back on mine. I would imagine it's a lock down once the fence cutting width has been adjusted just to stop any deviation under the pressure of cut, and as such is not cause for concern under the setting up process. Perhaps an owner can confirm. Philly? Escudo?

Cheers Alan

Another (simple) method is a vertical bar attached to the fence opposite the blade. Thus the work can be pivoted to compensate for the cutting bias whilst maintaining the desired thickness.

It's less of a worry on a bigger saw with a wider blade (and able to tension the wider blade correctly).

I've never had to adjust the fence on my bandsaw.

As mentioned there are 4 allen bolts that allow your to make adjustments for blade drift. Also the fence is not fixed to the rear rail - there is just a small 'spacer' to lift the rear of the fence off the table making it easier to move.

I too have never needed to adjust for blade drift when using larger than a 1/2" blade.

I wouldn't mind first dibs on the Record if the price is right.
