Hi, I have the Axminster AW10 BSB2 and would like to alter the riving knife so it is the same height as the blade or a fraction lower so I can do rebates and support the blade guard some other way, is this safe and what is the best way to do this, any advice, also my workshop is small and when I have the 2 side table extensions fitted one each side it is a bit hard to fit where I want it to go, it is on a mobile base which is great, so I wanted to get one of the side extension's cut to 150mm wide, where is the best place to get this done, I live in SE London. Thank you

Hi Murphy
Altering the riving knife is straightforward, but you do have to take care.
The RK is unlikely to be hardened, so you can cut it with a hacksaw. But be careful to keep it flat. If it gets distorted at all, it will foul the workpiece somewhere and be a pain. I made my replacement out of tool steel, but without hardening it. So it was quite rigid enough to withstand being worked, but stayed flat too.
As regards the guard, I support mine from the far right corner of the saw and have published ull details of it.
The extensions I can't help you with, I'm afraid.

I will be supporting the blade guard as Steve has mentioned above, from the right of the table, I am just waiting for the DVD
