I look at their gallery occasionally - then cower in shame every time.

Hi Peter,
If your club is an associated club then unless you have your own individual membership (which is open to anyone who wants to join), you are not a member.

For anyone who doesn't know what the AWGB is, take a look here http://www.awgb.co.uk/

NazNomad,
Don't cower in shame, be inspired and encouraged; just remember, everyone is at the learning stage in the beginning and for evermore, enjoy what you do.
As for the AWGB, it is there to assist and encourage with an executive who are forward looking - have you seen 'Let's Teach Turning"? The annual subscription is less than 50% of the cost of going to a Premier League match, or buying a few coffees at an overpriced coffee shop. The quarterly magazine has interesting articles and ideas and is professionally produced, give it a try.

No, I hadn't heard of it until last year.
I did consider joining and going to the seminar this year, but there wasn't any options available to suit the day(s) I was free to attend.
I've been watching their forum for a few months now. Whilst there's some outstanding work posted there in the gallery section, some of the attitudes of the 'management' are pretty poor.

Care to expand on that a little Rhossydd ? ( PM if you would prefer )

I think you've been following the same threads, I'm sure you know exactly what and who I'm referring to.

They've just lost in excess of £10k on the running of their last seminar, but any constructive criticism to help them prevent a similar disaster in future is dismissed. I just hope that AWGB members hold those responsible to account at the next AGM, it's their money, not mine.

I've just attempted to register on that forum - can someone answer this one for me - What do woodturners make the most of? Clue: its on the floor: 3h47fhj4g -- I'm not answering a daft question correctly and the site won't accept my details, it's the only answer that can think is wrong.

could ithe answer be shavings or sawdust? or as I do hamster bedding :)

The answer is shavings. If you get stuck on any of the other questions, use the "contact us" page on the AWGB website and I will send you all the other answers too.
