Attic storage

Sorry no WIP.....I always forget to take them.

Anyways, some attic storage for you. Made from 18mm MRmdf. Finished with WB Morrels spray paint. Sprayed with an Earlex as I don't have a compressor yet.

Drawers are from Ikea. Blum hinges with soft-close clip-ons. Handles are customers own......from Screwfix.

They are a 3 metre run. The attic is massive and there's another 3 metre to the other end. The room is for their 3 year old boy! A lucky lad

Ditto they look very good, ditto 3 hinges as the doors look deep. I'm curious about the earlex, I've never used one as most of my spraying can be done outside, but how are they indoors? Whats the noise levels like and overspray? Did you end up with a cloud of minute paint dust on everything?

Ah not too bothered by the handles being from Screwfix. It's just the way I type I guess. They do the job and usually have enough in stock off the shelf.

I think the hinges will be fine as I've done doors the same size and they've been ok.

The earlex was originally a 4500 if I remember correctly. I had it for about 1.5 years and then bought a new spray gun which would have been part if the newer 5500. The "pot" had a treatment inside to stop the paint sticking as much. A bit like non-stick pans. Can't remember the name!

I used to spray Morrells AC paint but I've recently taken on a member of staff so can't use it any more as the fumes are pretty nasty. Before, I would spray at the end of the day and vent the workshop until the next day. I have extraction with filters but it doesn't suck everything out.

I now use Morrells water based paint. It needs thinning out a fair bit. 10-12%. The temperature at the moment is ok for spraying but the earlex kicks out warm air. This warms the WB paint a little and it dries on the nozzle so a quick wipe every 5 mins sorts it out. Something I've got used to.

I don't know if it produces a lot of over-spray as I've not used any other system. However with my extraction in a booth I have made it doesn't go anywhere I don't want it too!

For the price i get along with it ok......until I can afford a compressor......after I stop buying other tools.

That looks cracking mate. How many coats did you use? Does it naturally sheen? or do you buff them out at all?

They have 4 coats although I usually use 3. Primer then 2 top coats with a bit of sanding in between. I use Zinnser Bin to seal the edges which is sanded back before spraying.

I used 4 on these as the MRmdf i was given was as good quality as I normally get so the "grain" raised a bit and I had to sand back pretty hard between coats.

The paint I used was a 20% (matt) finish and I didn't buff any of it after. I seem to get a good finish as it is to be fair. Hope that all helps

Ha, very good.

I use a wide angled lens on my iphone to take the pics so if you look closely there are a few curved looking bits in the corners.
