Atkinson saw ID

Hey everyone,

Came across this saw helping a friend clear out a garage, initially I thought it was a saw with a depth stop then saw the second row of teeth.
Any idea of its intended use? Common or uncommon tool? Ive never seen anything like this before.

A multi purpose saw. Would have had a few other blades in the set. The leaver screw in the handle lets you quickly change blades. Not all that uncommon and there are modern versions still around. Best get back in that garage and hunt up the other blades.

You're right orra that it's a changeable blade handle with typical lever nut, sold for diy - sometimes called a 'nest of saws', and would have a few more blades as sold but 1275 is correct that the blade fitted is not one of the usual set/nest.

I can't actually see the second row of teeth, but if there's one on both sides then it's a bit like a two sided back saw and the second edge gives twice the life before sharpening or maybe two tpi/set possibilities. There were also uncommon fixed handle saws like this, but with one edge where the moveable bar was intended as a depth stop as well as stiffener.

Atkinson's were making saws in Neepsend, Sheffield until about 2018.
