Hello there all,

In response to an advertisement in the local Rag - "old woodworking tools for sale" I called to see a retired fella and came away with these for £60.

Two large planes, what looks like a Jack plane, smoother, shoulder plane and four bead cutting planes.

Gaw'd knows if I paid too much?, still I liked the old boy and hope on the other hand the transaction is not unfair.

The majority of the planes are marked Atkins & sons, Birmingham (warranted). One has the name Griffiths, Norwich on and another seems to be from Glasgow.

The blades look old but are not rusty.

There was one other plane I did not buy, a small wooden compass plane I think, with a convex metal sole. This seemed a bit special and I was just not sure what it was worth?

Wonder what you all think about this haul? :?

Cheers,Tony.

I'd say that £60 could look a bit high IF you only compare with bottom of the range/unsold sales on ebay or car-boot gloats. But you have been able to have a good look at what you bought, and make a personal purchase. From the picture they all seem to be in good condition without hours of cleaning. So reflect that the price per plane is very low for the amount of craftsmanship in each one and enjoy them!

Andy
