Just finished this Ash Console Table, fumed oak stained, colour does not show too well in the photos and lighting makes it look a little patchy. I made one a few weeks ago in Oak which has sold, this is the replacement. A big Coffee Table also in Ash next which will be getting a distressed look  not my idea!

Good work and also nice to hear that your work is still selling. Out of interest, what was the stain that you used?

That stain seems to work quite well with the ash, nice looking piece, only comment I'd make would be that for a piece like that it would look that bit more special if the grain flowed continuously from the top down the sides. Though you would need some long boards for that

Agree with Damian's comments about the grain flow but I'm sure that's mainly something a woodworker would recognise. The finish is not to my taste but the general design is very nice. I just wish I could get nice tight mitres like that!

Built to a price which does not include extra work involved in board matching. I just make what I'm asked for, and if the customer is happy so am I, to a point. It looks a lot better than in the pics, my photography skills and the lighting do not help

I have made 2 of this design now and getting quicker at it.
Moving the boards around is harder than the cutting the mitres, the table is very heavy but the Domino lines up the mitres a treat :D

The stain is an oil based one from http://www.wsjenkins.co.uk/ called fumed oak. Its a little green, but customer loves it ? I have bought quite a few now and mixed and matched till we got a colour that suited.

Was asked to quote on on something a bit more interesting last night, burr veneered cabinet with high gloss finish, if I get it I'll post the process.

Thanks for the comments

As I said earlier Domino's in the mitres Ste  The shelf is m and t'd with the tenon ends cut off by 10mm to hide the joint.

Been prepping up more ash for a 1100mm x 1100mm Coffee table all morning lots of mitres to make the legs looks 100mm thick sq pics later when complete , this'll be stained a grey/brown colour.

Also won a Jet aircleaner on the bay, so hope that will make things a little less dusty round here  how happy are you with yours if you have one?

Sorry, we posted at the same time - I thought I'd done the 'lazy reader' thing for a sec there....

I like the finish on it to be honest. I have to say though, I agree with the point about making the top and legs with one piece. It would need a very long board, but the mitred joint really draws your eye to think the grain should continue round the outer faces. Minor thing though - I think it's a great piece. Thanks for posting.
